The EVO 860 is also built using the very latest in chip technology, and promises an extremely long service life, at least 10 times that of a mechanical hard drive. The EVO 860 can run many apps at one with no noticeable slowdown. Also, the mechanical hard would slow down each time I opened an application, to the point where if I had 5 apps running at the same time, it would bog down to the point of being immobilized. The mechanical hard drive required 15 minutes to get ready.
More importantly, the computer was ready to run programs just 15 seconds after the desktop appeared. Installing the EVO 860 cut boot times from 2 minutes to 30 seconds.
However, I am what is known as a power user, and the mechanical hard drive was unable to perform the many tasks I assign to it simultaneously at an acceptable speed. The EVO 860 is 500 gigabytes and cost $150. Prices for hard drives have fallen so far that I was able to buy a 2 terabyte hard drive for just $43 eight months ago here on eBay. 1-My desktop computer was an ideal candidate for this upgrade, and, 2-Any SSD is going to provide less storage capacity and cost more than a mechanical hard drive.
